"Mr President, this animal health alert is yet another reason for the EU to develop animal health standards. Unfortunately, the vaccine for combating this virus is still being worked on, and it is estimated that the impact of the epidemic will reach its peak in April. This is why the EU must make every effort to provide information in real time to farmers in Member States. Permanent surveillance needs to be carried out on the areas not yet affected by the virus in order to establish the contamination routes. It is also vital to reach the correct diagnosis and report cases to national authorities so that the outbreaks can be isolated.
Commissioner, the virus has already been included in the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed. How do you envisage distributing the necessary information directly to farmers in the affected areas?"@en1
