"Madam President, it is obvious that the maritime piracy problem must be fought. However, the pretext of fighting maritime piracy must not, under any circumstances, be used to implement imperialistic plans for controlling international waters, geostrategically important regions, access to natural resources or their movement, as could be the danger in the Horn of Africa. In the fight against maritime piracy, it is essential to fight the underlying causes associated with it, specifically fighting the poverty that the people of African countries suffer under the capitalist system, which has always used these countries for supplying the central countries with low-cost raw materials. In this regard, it is necessary for there to be a genuine development policy that respects the sovereignty of these countries and people. It is necessary to reject the militarisation of the European Union and to show respect for international law, the United Nations Charter, the principles of sovereignty and non-interference, and the development of fairer and more equitable international economic relationships."@en1
