"Mr President, I do not want to repeat everything we have talked about today because I think almost all of us are agreed as to the fact that the situation in Russia is bad and that the elections were neither free nor fair, although unfortunately, even today, there have been voices saying that these elections were a step forward. I do not think this is the case, neither do most of my fellow Members. However, I hope you will all also allow me to draw attention to the procedure for adopting this resolution, because the way this resolution has been taken through its successive stages has also had the effect of hindering its progress and work to strengthen it. It is a weak resolution and, in my view, Mr McMillan-Scott and other speakers in the House are right when they say that this resolution should be stronger and that it is the European Parliament’s role to make it stronger. Therefore, I have the honour of asking you all at tomorrow’s sitting to support three amendments tabled by the European Conservatives and Reformists Group which strengthen this weak resolution. I am counting on your votes."@en1
