"The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia continues to fulfil the political criteria to a satisfactory degree. The country continues to implement accession-related reforms, though core challenges remain. In the early parliamentary elections, a new Parliament was elected and a coalition government was quickly formed. It is important to deepen political dialogue and to address the issue of parliament as a key democratic institution for the discussion and resolution of problems arising from differing political views. Regarding economic development, the country is achieving some good economic results, and is striving to maintain macro-economic stability. The potential for investment, trade and economic development remains a vital reason to continue the process of the country’s accession to the EU. Also pleasing is its cooperation with the EU in the fight against organised crime and terrorism, and the conclusion of an operational agreement between the country and Europol aiming to substantially facilitate the exchange of analytical data and improve the fight against organised crime and terrorism. A positive fact is the new criminal procedure code, which should improve investigation procedures in complicated cases of organised crime and corruption. On the other hand, I find it regrettable that the dispute over the name of the country continues to block its path to the EU and thus hinders the enlargement process itself."@en1
