"I voted in favour of the European Parliament’s resolution on addressing the European Union’s diabetes epidemic, which calls on the Commission to develop and implement a targeted European strategy on diabetes prevention, diagnosis, education and research, and calls on the Member States to implement national diabetes programmes, focusing on prevention. Diabetes affects almost 10% of Europe’s population and this figure is expected to increase by 16.6% by 2030. It is therefore necessary for the EU to adopt a European strategy to complement the national efforts in order to provide ongoing financial support for research and encourage early diagnosis of the disease."@en1
