"At a time when Parliament is being called on to adopt the International Cocoa Agreement 2010, it is only right to assess the initiatives to combat the worst forms of child labour on West African cocoa farms. With this in mind, it is important to recognise that, despite the progress that has been made, much remains to be done. There is a need to insist on the need for authorities to assume their responsibilities as regards combating child trafficking and all forms of forced child labour, and to promote full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the International Labour Organisation’s conventions on this matter. In the same way, it is important to welcome multi-stakeholder initiatives – involving governments, industry, producers and civil society – aimed at eradicating child labour, at improving the lives of children and adults on cocoa farms, and at ensuring that cocoa is grown responsibly."@en1
