"The European Union is the world’s largest consumer of chocolate and home to many leading chocolate manufacturers. Therefore, the EU must ensure that the necessary raw materials can be produced sustainably and without the exploitative use of child labour. The new version of the International Cocoa Agreement is an important step in the collaboration between the cocoa producing and cocoa consuming countries. We are responsible for ensuring that producers can continue to develop their businesses in future under fair conditions. We must focus our attention on exploitative child labour which harms children’s health and we must use all the resources at our disposal to combat it. I believe that this resolution highlights the concerns of the European Parliament in a targeted and balanced way."@en1
