"Mr President, child labour in any sector is something that the EU should play a part in eradicating around the world. By refusing to sign trade agreements with Uzbekistan, which continues to use child labour in cotton picking, it will make other regions in the world realise that, in order to continue trading with the EU, they do have to reach basic minimum standards of rights.
This report cites the statistic that 215 million children across the world are currently engaged in child labour, a shocking figure in this day and age. Ultimately, we must continue to use our trading power to eradicate these abuses and, hopefully, show other countries that educating their children, instead of putting them to work at such a young age, is the real way to achieve growth and a more vibrant and intelligent economy in the future."@en1
