"The last time I was in Strasbourg four weeks ago, I actually gave an interview outside, on this corridor, to a Dutch television station when I said that the Dutch Government has to clarify its position about this notorious Internet website which, unfortunately, fuels sentiments against migrant workers. This was followed by the EPSCO Council where Minister Kamp gave his views about this situation to fellow ministers from other European Member States.
I think this case is very, very unfortunate. Countries like the Netherlands, where there is a greater level of prosperity – although there are difficulties at this time in terms of growth and budgetary issues – in comparison to the rest of Europe, are in quite a good situation, with a relatively low unemployment rate, and should demonstrate a more welcoming approach and a greater level of cooperation concerning free movement in general and also cooperation on social security coordination.
This is why the Netherlands is one of the countries to which I am writing a letter following the notification about the continuing restrictions on free movement vis-à-vis Romania and Bulgaria."@en1
