lpv:translated text	"I voted for the resolution on quality management for European statistics because I believe that precision and reliability in statistical data are a precondition for being able to react promptly to economic deficiencies within individual states and for overcoming the systemic risks jeopardising the financial stability of the euro area and Europe. The resolution includes recommendations on how to guarantee the quality and reliability of data and coordinated activity by the EU’s statistical office and the Member States’ statistical offices, by coordinating many standards and methodologies. I believe that we must reduce to the minimum the possibility of any Member State publishing imprecise or incorrect national statistical data. We are still experiencing the consequences of such action today in the case of Greece. Similarly, we must put an end to the situation where individual indicators, such as growth in GDP, can vary significantly between Member States because of differences in methodology. Data must be comparable and must reflect the corresponding economic situation, so that macro-economic shortcomings may be remedied in good time and so that fiscal policies may be developed in the EU which ensure stability and remove the threat of economic recession. It is in Latvia’s interests to have a stable Europe that can buy our goods, and a responsible policy on the part of other states in formulating budgets will help to ensure this. Prompted by these considerations, I submitted an amendment that was adopted by the European Parliament and included in the final version of the resolution."@en1
