On a European level, it is important to put in place effective initiatives and strategies for achieving balanced participation, ensuring that women are able to reconcile their family lives, private lives and professional lives. Unfortunately, structural barriers prevent women from rising to top-level positions. It is regrettable that the report needlessly focuses on women from ethnic minorities that are under-represented in European political assemblies, for whom, it is argued, special measures should be adopted. That is why I voted against the report, since, once again, we are seeing an attempt to protect and defend the rights of non-Europeans at the expense of EU citizens."@en1
