"I would like to reiterate that the new measures boosting the participation of women in economic and political life are essential for European democracy.
I note, in particular, that as it stands, 35 per cent of MEPs are women, but the average level of female representation in the national parliaments of the EU stands unchanged at 24 per cent. Only 23 per cent of government ministers are women. We must therefore strive to improve the gender balance within the political decision-making process."@en1
