".
I am happy to see that the majority of MEPs have, like me, chosen to continue to support and to enhance the links between the EU and Morocco, and to support the transition to democracy following the Arab Spring. I am among those who think that this agricultural agreement will help to alleviate problems with the economy, immigration and security. Parliament has taken into account the many concerns raised by producers in Southern Europe. As a result, safeguards have been provided; these were called for in order to moderate the increase in quotas for certain products, such as tomatoes, strawberries and cucumbers. The agreement also sets seasonal quotas with a view to combating distortions on the EU market and recalls that Moroccan imports should meet European hygiene standards. There was therefore a call for strict monitoring of the application of quotas, as well as enhanced controls in order to avoid any potential fraud in the entry price system. Parliament has also called for an impact assessment on the revenues of European producers and farmers."@en1
