"In the context of national austerity and budget consolidation efforts across Europe, I am glad that, with the vote of Thursday, 16 February, the European Parliament has shown self-restraint and responsibility in the guidelines for the EU 2013 budget. I support the proposed freeze in administrative spending for all institutions, which can surely be achieved through structural changes, reorganisation and getting rid of inefficiencies. I also welcome the proposed freeze on travel expenditure in 2013 and no indexation of all MEPs’ allowances. I am delighted that we seem to have an agreement to reject any new unforeseen building development project for our institutions until the end of the legislature. Finally, I would like to recall that I remain convinced that one of the best and most efficient ways to make savings in the Parliament budget would be to adopt a single seat for this House, in Brussels, and this is the reason why I signed and supported the amendment tabled to that effect by a group of MEPs from all political groups."@en1
