"In recent years, there has been a significant crisis in Europe’s dairy sector There will, without doubt, be a major shift after the abolition of milk quotas, scheduled for 2015. We must improve the bargaining power of producers in order to secure a stable future for the sector. Hopefully, this can be achieved through the use of contracts and by encouraging producers to organise themselves into producer organisations. Inter-branch organisations can, in fact, play a useful role in facilitating dialogue between actors in the supply chain and in promoting best practice and market transparency. In order to ensure the rational development of production and a fair standard of living for dairy farmers, their bargaining power vis-à-vis processors should be strengthened, which should result in a fairer distribution of added value along the supply chain. Measures to improve transparency and comprehensive data analysis of EU milk production should go some way to restoring the relative stability which was once achieved by supply management."@en1
