"Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased that tomorrow we will be voting on the recommendation for a second reading on the programme for the distribution of food products to the most deprived persons in the Union, which involves the continuation of this important programme until 2013.
After all these months and the commitment of so many people, whom I would like to thank, starting with our rapporteur, Vice-President Siekierski and Commissioner Cioloş, we have managed to achieve this important result, which means not abandoning 18 million poor people in Europe to their fate.
The European Parliament has often expressed its approval of this programme and also of its continuation after 2013. Our political initiative will therefore continue, we will not rest just with tomorrow’s vote, Mr President. In full compliance with the ruling of the Court of Justice, Europe must also be able to continue offering solidarity to the weaker members of our society in the future, particularly during these tough economic times."@en1
