I voted for this document because I think the Commission’s proposal to make the rules on vaccination against bluetongue more flexible is a sensible one. The provisions of Directive 2000/75/EC refer solely to the vaccines that were available at that time, permitting vaccination only in specific areas where the disease has actually occurred and which have therefore been subject to animal movement restrictions, because of the high transmission risk.
The new ‘inactivated vaccines’, on the other hand, do not pose the risk of infecting unvaccinated animals and may therefore be successfully used outside areas subject to animal movement restrictions."@en1
