lpv:translated text	"Mr President, the increase in intellectual property infringements observed in recent years threatens to undermine the strategy on intellectual property rights in the single market that was launched by the Commission in May 2011. To combat such infringements and ensure the success of the intellectual property protection policy, it has been proposed that the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market be entrusted with certain tasks relating to the running of the European Observatory on Counterfeiting and Piracy, set up in 2009. The purpose of this is to provide the Observatory with the human and financial resources to combat intellectual property infringements and to conduct campaigns to raise public awareness of the risks of buying counterfeit products. Our adoption of the report therefore marks a very important moment in the fight against the trade in counterfeit goods and in defence of innovation, growth and the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the jobs and security of the people of Europe."@en1
