"The Daphne programme has justified its existence for years, and the projects implemented within the framework of the programme have been fruitful. I therefore consider it important for this programme to continue in order to combat violence against children, young people and women, even though this will take place in the context of the rights and citizenship programme from 2014. One important point mentioned in the report involves the shortcomings in the gathering of data regarding violence against women: insufficient and irregularly gathered statistics prevent the acquisition of a broad overview, and this, in turn, makes it impossible to develop better solutions in combating violence against women. I voted in favour of this report and I support the idea that the Daphne programme must continue in one form or another and that its targeted financing must not be reduced. The Daphne programme and its objectives are well-known, but in order to ensure that the programme remains as relevant and effective as it is now, several new objectives must be established; for instance, the elimination of honour crimes and female genital mutilation."@en1
