lpv:translated text	"Articles 191 and 192 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union state that EU policy on the environment will contribute to the prudent and reasonable use of natural resources and towards improving the quality of human health. Given that 79 million people in the EU are living below the poverty line, and that 16 million receive food aid from charitable institutions, I believe that it is crucial that measures be adopted to reduce food wastage. In view of this, I am voting for this report, as I believe there is a need to carry out a thorough analysis of the whole food supply chain in order to identify which food sectors generate the most waste, and to establish common food-related objectives at international level with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation in order to facilitate the application of discounts to products nearing their expiry date. I also believe that increased exchange of best practices should be promoted, and that campaigns should be carried out to raise public awareness of the value of food and agricultural products."@en1
