lpv:translated text	"Half of edible food in the EU is wasted. Every year, each EU citizen generates 179 kg of food waste, and it is estimated that this figure could increase by 40% by 2020. The report sets out concrete measures for halving this wastage by 2025. These measures include dual-date labelling, with ‘sell by’ and ‘use by’ dates, modifying the size of packaging to better match quantities, the possibility of bulk sales, discounted sales of products that are damaged or close to their expiry date, awareness-raising campaigns and education initiatives at the various levels of education. It also calls for changes to the public procurement rules for catering and hospitality services, so that businesses that redistribute any unsold items to disadvantaged citizens free of charge are given preference. The report introduces measures that reduce food waste and increase the efficiency of the food chain, so I voted in favour. In the EU, there are 16 million people who receive food aid. I believe that this situation should be resolved as a matter of priority. Aid policies are important in order to mitigate the impact of the situation, but fairer policies relating to redistribution are needed in order to resolve it in an effective way."@en1
