However, abolition of internal borders requires increased management of the Union’s external borders, as well as regulation of the entry and residence of third-country nationals. These amendments will enable third-country nationals holding a valid visa or residence permit issued by a Member State where all the provisions of Schengen have not yet been applied to be exempt from the need to have an airport transit visa. As such, I voted for this report amending the Community Code on Visas with the intention of clarifying the text, ensuring the harmonised implementation of the rules, and reducing the administrative burden on the Member States."@en1
