".
The development of relations with Central Asian countries is of strategic significance for Europe, because these are dynamically developing countries which are hugely important for the global economy. Now is a good time to summarise what has been achieved by the EU’s strategy for this region, since it has been in operation for four years. It is particularly encouraging to see the regularity of meetings and the strengthening of relationships between high-level representatives, particularly in the face of major events such as the global crisis. At the same time, there are only three EU representations in these countries, which is concerning, and I am therefore pinning great hopes on the proposal to create a regional interparliamentary forum. Another important consideration is the need to increase the EU funds available to implement programmes in this region. This also entails the development of an appropriate strategy for their absorption. I agree that the pillars of our policy towards these countries must be security, the rule of law and respect for human rights, as well as genuine regional cooperation. I support the resolution."@en1
