Against the backdrop of budgetary austerity, which is also affecting the defence sector, it is imperative that we promote more effective sharing of resources with a view to reinvigorating the European defence sector. In doing so, we will reinforce our military power, an essential factor in keeping our citizens safe and making the Union a force to be reckoned with globally, but, at the same time, we will be supporting an industrial sector that is vital to our economies."@en1
