"Mr President, I support this directive on behalf of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group. I, too, wish to congratulate the rapporteur, the Commission, and also the Polish Presidency, who steered this difficult work to a successful conclusion. We should be glad that we are taking a significant step towards improving the quality of foods – juices are an important element of the food available – and that we are improving their quality while introducing more stringent requirements as regards information for consumers. These are all steps in the right direction. The European Union does a great deal in this field, but perhaps it should do even more. We should strive, by all means available, to ensure that food is of the highest quality and, above all, that the consumer obtains accurate and reliable information about food. The directive achieves these objectives. It was not easy, because – as our colleagues have explained – conflicting interests had to be reconciled. The search for a compromise was long and hard, but the fruit of this work should be a cause for satisfaction. My group will, of course, vote in favour of the directive. Again, my congratulations on the excellent results of this work. Thank you."@en1
