"Mr President, Baroness Ashton, throughout the world, obstacles, including legislative obstacles, are increasing against freedom of worship. The number of attacks and murders grow each year and affect practitioners of all religions, but Christians in particular. Paradoxically, religious freedom is becoming an increasingly uncertain issue rather than one of the most natural and indisputable freedoms. In Europe and in our Parliament, we constantly proclaim our defence of human rights, but our work to guarantee religious freedoms is still rather ineffective. That is why I am in favour of the proposal, which has been put forward on other occasions, to commission a specific, accurate and yearly report by Parliament to monitor the state of religious freedoms around the world. This report would provide the necessary facts to plan appropriate and preventive political action in line with what was expressed by the High Representative to organise policies which are country-specific in terms of the needs of the country itself."@en1
