"Over the years, various trade barriers have caused major problems for the international market. One particularly sensitive area involves non-tariff trade barriers, which are often put in place by governments in what is allegedly the public interest. However, to a certain extent, they are at risk of being abused (protectionism under the guise of legitimate political objectives). Suitable measures for identifying and removing or reducing non-tariff barriers include free trade agreements between the EU and third countries, periodic reassessment of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreement, a joint engagement by the Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) with the EU’s trade partners and the establishment of an early warning mechanism. I have voted in favour."@en1
