This must be one of the most important priorities of the new EU trade policy, which forms part of the Europe 2020 strategy. As far as the free trade agreements between the EU and third countries are concerned, it is essential that they have an adequate level of reciprocal market access. I would like to repeat my call for a sustainability chapter in trade agreements which must be linked to safeguard clauses. Quality requirements and standards, in particular in the agricultural industry, play an important role in the EU internal market.
