"I am voting for this report because the application meets the requirements for accessing the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF). The ultimate aim of the measures provided for by the EGF is to help workers made redundant to find and keep a new job, and it is clear that these workers require assistance in this respect. I would point out that the EGF now also provides assistance for workers who have lost their job as a result of the global economic and financial crisis. That appears to be the case, since there has been a significant decline in private investment in the construction sector in recent months. As such, the EU should provide help for those affected by the crisis, and by the consequent economic and social disruptions."@en1
