"I voted for the revision of the multiannual financial framework, which will enable the continuation of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project over the next two years, in such a way that this does not end up being done at the expense of the projects and programmes to take place under the umbrella of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research. On the one hand, we acknowledge the relevance of projects in pursuit of new renewable and alternative energy sources that are socially and environmentally sustainable, and that speed up the process of abandonment of nuclear fission. On the other, it is of crucial importance to ensure that the ITER’s need for additional funding does not prevent or compromise the funding of research projects and programmes in other areas, specifically by ensuring that all the provisions of the 2006 interinstitutional agreement remain applicable."@en1
