"The adoption of this report has amended the interinstitutional agreement of 17 May 2006, in particular, the multiannual financial framework (MFF), injecting a sum of EUR 1.3 billion in commitment appropriations into the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project for the period 2012-2013. This breaks down as follows: EUR 100 million already included in the 2012 budget under the ITER budget headings; EUR 360 million in commitment appropriations in the 2013 budgetary procedure, pursuant to the MFF; and EUR 840 million under heading 1a (Competitiveness for Growth and Employment), divided into EUR 650 million for 2012 and EUR 190 million for 2013. The increase relating to heading 1a is accompanied by a reduction in the ceilings for heading 2 (Preservation and Management of Natural Resources: EUR 450 million for 2011) and heading 5 (Administration: 243 million in 2011, and EUR 147 million in 2012). Despite the controversy surrounding this project, in general terms, we believe it is important that research in the field of energy be able to continue, so as to overcome the risks and limitations of the forms of energy currently available. This research should consider multiple options and prioritise renewable sources."@en1
