"Madam President, the European protection order is, without a doubt, a long awaited text, on which a lot of work has been done, and which is also finally ready to be voted on.
It hasn’t been easy to reach this point: it has been far too difficult. However, I first want to applaud the initiative of the Spanish Presidency in starting the process, then the joint work carried out by Ms Jiménez-Becerril and Ms Romero, from the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, showing that the coordination under Rule 51 is successful, which I hope is also the case for the package relative to the victims. Finally, I should like to applaud not only the work before us, but also the challenge of showing that this is a step forward, but, as Ms Romero stated, it is simply a step forward: by no means is it the final one. Many more remain, as there is no point in the victims suffering today and having to pay even more to have the right to be recognised throughout the European Union."@en1
