The resolution presented today definitely has positive aspects, such as the call to bolster the tools for detecting and preventing the virus, the need to improve assistance for affected people and the plea for investment in research so that this syndrome can finally be defeated. It also looks important to have a proper information and awareness campaign in order to combat the persistent prejudices in our society. However, I was unable to vote in favour since this resolution contains a message that is not acceptable for me. I am referring to Article 22, which suggests that abortion is a legitimate way to prevent infection. I therefore abstained because, although I support combating AIDS in general, I cannot allow any concessions in favour of abortion."@en1
