"According to the list presented by the rapporteur, the recent Single Market Forum brought together European businesses, social partners, non-governmental organisations, think-tanks, journalists, national parliaments, European institutions, public authorities at various levels of government and European citizens. It was therefore an occasion to think about the European system of free movement of persons, goods, services and capital, which currently allows the free movement of 500 million people. This has been the basis for the communitarian project, strengthening trading relations between the countries involved, hence their interdependence, and so making Europe an area of peace and harmony. The single market, or its potential, thus deserves the consideration of European analysts, as well as commitment on the part of the Union’s institutions to constantly strengthen the mechanisms of economic integration, without losing sight of the reason why they were established. These are principles with which I myself identify and which have therefore gained my support."@en1
