"I decided to vote against this report on the European Semester for Economic Policy Coordination. This is because the entire analysis is based on and geared towards the Europe 2020 strategy, an initiative that is completely failing to bear the expected fruits, perhaps partly as a result of the crisis. However, it is not the first time that these much heralded strategies have turned out to be overwhelming failures, and the crisis cannot be used as an excuse for the expected failure of the Europe 2020 strategy as well. Focusing many of the objectives of economic policy coordination on this strategy looks to me like a move that is risky at best. I must also add that, in various points, it seems to be a case of coordinating the social policies of Member States, rather than their economies. The semester of coordination has only been in place for a few months, but I think that its value and meaning ought to be different from the content of this report."@en1
