"I voted against the European Commission proposal on economic governance and coordination, known as the European Semester for Economic Policy Coordination, because it means giving more power to the markets, confirming the commitment to deregulation and giving them – in other words, the oligopolies made up of big multinationals and the financial sector – free rein to do business, filling a few pockets with privatised rights in the name of austerity and cuts. This initiative leaves national parliaments with their hands tied, imposing EU supervision over their budgets to make sure they keep the markets happy at all times, regardless of whether or not the budgets reflect the needs and demands of the people in each Member State. These are more than sufficient reasons to vote against the proposal."@en1
