"The EU has undergone a period of rapid growth in recent years. Twelve new Member States have acceded since 2004. Unfortunately, all the euphoria at the expansion in the East has meant that warnings have been ignored, as in the case of Bulgaria and Romania recently. As a result of the debt crisis, the EU is currently undergoing its greatest test since its foundation. Consolidation must take precedence over expansion if we are to preserve the European project. A ‘no’ at this point is not aimed at the Croatian people and the efforts of large parts of the population, but rather a vote in favour of stabilising the Union. For these reasons, I have voted against the accession of Croatia."@en1
