"I supported this resolution as tackling early school leaving is one of the measures which need to be taken to reduce unemployment, increase employment and prevent the loss of the EU’s social and economic potential. I regard it as important to work towards keeping pupils at school, as well as giving those who stopped their education early a second chance. This will allow young people to be given the opportunity to participate fully in society and will reduce the risk of social exclusion. I share the view that a greater focus is required on vulnerable groups, as well as on the population living in poorer and remote regions, as they are hit hardest by this problem. Research carried out in Bulgaria indicates that the main reasons for children dropping out of school are not associated with their reluctance to go, but with the educational and social status of their parents. Problems of this kind require enhanced coordination between the individual institutions, an improvement in educational assistance, social services and additional support for the families. I believe that providing equal opportunities and access to high-quality education to people from every group will contribute to growth in Europe."@en1
