"Madam President, our citizens are calling for effective action. Again and again, the public sees politicians being forced to take frantic measures and being pushed around by the rating agencies and the financial markets. The citizens of Europe are asking themselves where genuine government can still be found. As long as we go on conceding or even handing over power to the financial markets, political action will come bottom of the list.
At this Council Summit we want to see concrete measures being taken on behalf of our citizens. They are the ones who are unemployed. We must invest in sustainable projects to strengthen the labour market by providing a supply of well-trained workers."@en1
