"I voted against the report on gender mainstreaming in the work of the European Parliament. Throughout my political career, I have always campaigned for gender equality. This report puts forward some interesting ideas, and it is essential to carry on affirming the importance of gender mainstreaming in public policies so as to ensure gender equality. Nevertheless, I could not reasonably support paragraph 12, which pays a disproportionate amount of attention to transgender people in European policies. I am all for tolerance, but that does not mean that the European Parliament should allocate human and financial resources to assessing European policies on transgender people at the present time. I therefore had to oppose the report."@en1
