"Technology has changed and is still changing our lifestyles very rapidly. Like other industries, European cinema too is having to face up to the challenges posed by the digital era. One need only compare the cost of producing a film on celluloid and that of producing a digital copy, which is 10 times lower. The digital copy can also potentially be distributed more quickly and translated more easily into different language versions. There is no doubt, therefore, that the digital version can facilitate independent, low-cost production. Cinema is art and creativity, but it must not be forgotten that cinema is also an important branch of European industry and needs public support in order to remain a valid tool for disseminating culture. Those, then, are the reasons why I voted in favour."@en1
