lpv:translated text	"Having considered the current economic situation in the entire European economy, I believe it is necessary and essential to define a framework for all the important topics and challenges we have ahead of us in the consumer area, with a view to protecting consumers. The strategy, which will be published as a Commission communication and will include all initiatives for consumers from 2012 onwards, should follow the double objective of ensuring that consumers are protected on the one hand (by means of guarantees of safe food, health and product safety) and, on the other, of reducing the disparities between European consumers. With the firm conviction that the strategy for consumer policy can allow for consumer interests to be taken into account in all other relevant EU policies, I am voting in favour."@en1
