"The online gambling sector has been growing robustly over the last decade. It is currently estimated to already represent 10% of the market. However, ease of access by consumers, irrespective of their age or where they are accessing from, firstly encourages an increase in situations of gambling addiction, and, secondly, makes it difficult for the Member States to monitor how these activities are exercised. As such, there is justification for a common EU approach, guided by the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality. A way needs to be found, therefore, to enable the protection of the positions of the different Member States and consumers without making these economic activities less dynamic. I voted in favour for these reasons."@en1
