"I voted in favour of this report because it is very important to restrict the growth of the online gambling sector, enhance the protection of minors from online games, and combat money laundering and other crimes associated with gambling. Currently, there is no specific legislative act regulating online gambling in the European Union and the online gambling sector is growing with a market volume in excess of EUR 10 billion. Attention should be drawn to the fact that an increasing number of people are being exposed to the dangers of addiction, fraud, scams and underage gambling. Excessive online gambling can cause mental disorders which may take over a person’s private life and force them to relinquish many of their important work, social, family and material commitments. In order to reduce the amount of legal and illegal gambling in Europe, uniform laws concerning gambling licences and their regulation need to be adopted by all Member States."@en1
