"I am opposed to trade tariffs, and this request for suspension of the Common Customs Tariffs in order to help producers in the Canary Islands proves that they are bad for business. However, I cannot support this request. If a state wishes to be in the EU, then it should accept that it will be subject to the same damaging legislation as everybody else. Why should the producers of the Canary Islands be exempt from the taxes that are crippling businesses in my country? Lift the tariffs completely, not selectively."@en1
