In 1977, the communist regime in Romania closed down the psychology departments of the country’s large universities. Specialists in the field were indicted or forced into unskilled work. Through the abusive arrest of the psychologist Ms Rafah Nached, the Syrian regime continues this sad tradition, again proving its undemocratic credentials. She is not a political activist, but her actions were considered subversive because they are concerned with the human soul, which naturally aspires to freedom. And for the Syrian regime, this aspiration represents a danger. Ms Rafah Nached should be released immediately. Not because she is well known in the scientific community or because of her health problems, but because she has done nothing more than to exercise her profession."@en1
