"Antimicrobial resistance in humans is increasing. This is due, on the one hand, to the excessive and/or inappropriate absorption of antibiotics during medical treatment and, on the other, the indirect absorption of such products through those ingested by livestock. This antimicrobial resistance is a major challenge for our health, since these antibiotics have less and less of a curative effect. This resolution calls for the intensification of research into new antimicrobial agents, the adoption of a legislative framework for action against antimicrobial resistance, and large-scale prevention policies in all the Member States to raise people’s awareness of the sensible and effective use of these agents by European citizens. These are points I support. I therefore welcome the adoption of this text in the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg."@en1
