"Mr President, the much-respected Jean Lambert has completed a complex parliamentary report, her second in the year of the ‘Asylum Package’, which marks the path that should be followed to achieve a common European asylum system.
This report, in addition to raising its own questions, also touches on matters raised in other reports, such as my own report on reception conditions. If we want asylum seekers to be independent and not rely on handouts from the host State, access to employment is vital and should be recognised immediately after international protection is granted. In these times of economic crisis, humanity must and can be reconciled with the economy."@en1
