"Madam President, we are talking today about the impact of the financial crisis on the surge in job dismissals in Europe, especially in large companies such as Nokia and Arcelor. Indeed, the former intends to make approximately 3 500 workers redundant in Romania, Denmark, Finland and Great Britain before the end of the year 2012, and the latter plans to get rid of 1 000 workers in Belgium, as well as to cut back production at its Spanish plant. The decision about the fate of 200 employees of the company in Kraków and the maintenance of some of the production in Nowa Huta and Dąbrowa Górnicza in Poland has not been made yet. However, together with the deterioration in the global economic situation, other large corporations such as Opel and Motorola are faced with an even more difficult situation.
We must find a way to mitigate the impact of the economic crisis, because it will affect ordinary people primarily – workers of these and many other companies, including small and medium-sized ones, and, above all, remember that they should not be the first ones to pay the price of the economic crisis in Europe and worldwide."@en1
