"The European Union stands at the forefront in the fight for better living standards in developing countries. The need for general consensus in joint activities is always advocated in relation to achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. In the fight against poverty, it is vital to obtain as much development funding as possible from all available resources. The EU is not only one of the most important donors of official development aid (ODA), but also provides developing countries with an all-round set of measures to support sustainable development, particularly through cooperation with partner countries in creating a strategy for aid provision. Even though ODA is one of the best indicators of official donor commitments, it is not the only source of funding for development. An increasing proportion of total ODA comes from emerging countries which are not members of the OECD. Regardless of this fact, transparency and accountability – both between the governments of donor and recipient countries and between the state and society – are prerequisites for aid effectiveness. The development aid landscape is constantly evolving, and aid effectiveness mechanisms should better reflect the emergence of new donors. In my opinion, it is right to continue to give consideration to the quality of aid, and to promote an international agenda which focuses on development."@en1
